The list ranks suburbs by the number of bees, hornets, wasps and yellow jacket customers serviced by Anderson since the end of 2014. Mosquitoes, also a stinging insect, are considered separately and were featured in the Anderson list released in July.

Anderson’s 2015 Top 10 Stinging Insect Suburbs:

  1. Libertyville (18% of all calls)
  2. Arlington Heights (17% of all calls)
  3. Lake Forest (12% of all calls)
  4. Glenview (10% of all calls)
  5. Vernon Hills (9% of all calls
  6. Downers Grove (8% of all calls)
  7. Evanston (7% of all calls)
  8. Gurnee (7% of all calls)
  9. Naperville (6% of all calls)
  10. Palatine (6% of all calls)

According to the company, stinging insects become a nuisance in late summer and autumn when they nest around homes, buildings and areas where people live, work and play. Millions of Americans are at risk for suffering severe allergic reactions. Yellow jackets in particular, with the ability to repeatedly sting, can be especially aggressive, making them a considerable health threat. Yellow jackets alone are responsible for about one half of all human insect stings.

“Remember, stinging insects are important pollinators,” said Tom Dobrinska, Staff Entomologist at Anderson Pest Solutions. “So careless destruction of bee hives and wasp nests should be avoided if possible. Along with bees and wasps, there are other stinging insects, such as bald face hornets that may nest around your home and require professional control measures.”
